A good friend gave me a copy of a CD that she thought I would like. I am a Tomasz Stanko fan and she had heard a Japanese trumpet player that she liked named Terumasa Hino. On the cover of the CD was a photo of him playing a trumpet which had an upturned bell (not quite as radical as Diz's) and flat, quarter moon shaped bracing on the main tuning slide and the rear bell bend. I believe the cd was from a session done a decade ago. In the liner notes it stated that Hino played a Yamaha. Anyone seen one of these? Any info. I would think it was custom made, but predates many of the horns made today. Also, he's pretty good, indeed. IMHO

I think I know which horn you are talking about.

I was wondering, too. Definitely not an off-the-shelf Yamaha, if it is a Yamaha at all. Before Yamaha revamped their site, they had an artists page which stated that Hino played a 6335 (not the Heavy Wall model). Great player, BTW.

Martin... QUACK QUACK You get the $100. Very good. He is real good and thanks for the photos. I particularly like the mute he uses. Obviously he is like Wynton. Dents don't seem to matter much. The upturned bell almost looks like it was either done at home or by accident.
