i had one for some time.
i didn't like the quality control.
there were too many little things that would go wrong.
the sound was good but it was falling apart on me as i played it.

the concept TT and the committee are both much better, IMO, so the King would be a step down.

I played a King about a year ago, not sure of the exact model, but it was in their Pro line if that means anything. Anyways, I agree with the previous guy. It left me with a bad a taste in my mouth for Kings. I didn't care for the craftmanship on it. The receiver was kind of wimpy, that valve caps weren't machined very nice either. The trigger that was on it felt like it was going to fall apart. Sorry!

What is it that your're looking for? Are you locked in a certain price or was the King the only thing you could find in your area to try out and test play?

I've lived with this model (King Legend .462) for a little over 3 months, so I thought I'd put in my 2 cents. As to quality control, there are a few flaws. The threads on one of the bottom valve caps aren't very clean, making removing/changing bottom valve caps on that valve more difficult. The internal ends of the reverse tuning slides weren't machined/cut very cleanly, some uneven edges and burrs left, which I buffed out. Also, on the 1st and 3rd tuning slides, the 2 ends of the slide aren't cut even, so when these slide are all the way in, there is still a gap on one side (hope I explained that clearly). Having said that, the finish is very nice, valves function very well, fast and with a nice short throw. 1st and 3rd tuning slides fit very well, not tight, nor too loose.
Now, as to how it plays, which is it's strong point. It has a nice rich tone, very versatile sound. I also find it easy to play. It slots very well, while also allowing for easy slurs. This is a balancing act which I find missing in alot of horns. The short throw of the valves make fast passages easier. Intonation is about average. Upper register plays nice and open. My overall impression is that this horn is easy and fun to play, and more important, easy to play well, easy to sound good on. For the price I paid ($1149 at WWBW) I would recommend it without hesitation.

is the glass half full or is it half empty?

i also think the 2070 is a nice sounding horn, that's why i bought it.
i believe for that amount of money there should be NO quality problems.

there are several manufacturers who have a nice design but QC problems.
i demand that they take the time to put the horn together properly!
what happened to pride in your work?

Hi there! Someone in my school band has a King pro model...had to send it back in because the silver plating was chipping. I wouldn't get one just for that reason. I'd say Yamaha, Bach, Zeus, or Getzen.
