I am listening to a Charles Tolliver cd and note that he is playing a flugel made by Conn in the mid 60's. It is a non-standard design, more like a mutant trumpet, elongated design. Anyone ever played one, know anytjing about them, have one for sale, etc.? All info appreciated. Meanwhile Mr. Tolliver is very nice indeed. |

Yes, I have played one, and Ray Vega currently owns and uses one. They show ap at Dillon Music from time to time. They're ok, but they don't have a normal flugel sound -- kind of like the Puje of flugelhorns, too trumpety. I find them uncomfortable to hold as well. That was Conn's first failed attempt at a flugelhorn. The V1's are a significant improvement and are nothing (thankfully) like those old ones. |
