You might consider investing $100 or so in a cleaning with ultrasound which would probably include new springs, corks, sythentic felts. Ask the tech for his/her opinion on the valves. Sometimes the cleaning and new springs will do the trick. Eventually, you may want to have the valves replated. I've done that with several horns and it can make a huge difference in playability. But take it one step at a time. _________________ Jim Hatfield

Thanks a lot.
But I guess I was also a bit rash with my report on the condition of the valves. As it appears, I somewhat underestimated those at the very least 10 days the horn wasn't touched at all and instead spent a considerable amount of time under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. the plane's fright hold etc.).
After about half an hour of intensive playing, the valves now seem to slowly but certainly come back to life again. Only the third one still drags behind a bit. But I'm confident.
I'll let you know in case I experience any further problems.
Besides that, I'm so far absolutely happy with this horn's sound, power, and look. |
