I have a 1936 Conn 26A Director in good shape, plays well, good valves. On the Conn Loyalist site Christine says that the micro tuning mechanism on the third slide is mentioned in the patent but didn't make it onto the horn, but mine does have one. Can anyone tell me if this is unusual? Also, anyone know where to get slide stop rods for these old Conns? I'm really liking these "clickless crysteel valves", they work well and are very quiet, I wonder why they're not used any more? Anyone else pay these? Thanks!

Bob

I may also have been wrong, of course I couldn't tell you if that is rare or not, but I would be interested in pictures of it!

Regards, Christine

If you look at the pictures of Nick DeCarlis's two vintage Director cornets, the micro-tuner is in the slide between the third valve and the bell, which runs parallel to the third valve slide. They're only visible in pictures showing the appropriate side -- the side opposite the second valve slide.

As far as rod stops go, I once bought a mid-sixties 36B Connstellation trumpet that had been serviced at Dillons in New Jersey before the owner shipped it to me. Dillons supplied the missing third-valve stop rod which was included, unmounted, with the horn. I had my repair guy install it on the horn for a pittance. So you might want to contact Dillons about vintage Conn stop rods.

Thanks for the replies. Anyone played one of these before?
