Hello,
I have owned both a SC 0.464" (new, 1999 with 3rd slide conversion) and a 0.460" (used, 1998 before conversions were standard order). The latter, was part of a trade and only kept it for a couple of months.
Played the 0.464" in all playing circumstances for 2-3 years. From the audience's perspective, it was great for big band lead. For me, the player, the feedback was limited. Trade-off for outstanding projection.
Since I was used to larger bore horns (0.464" SC and WT), the 0.460" was like a weapon. I had a tendency to play too loud with it.
If the player is able to "listen from afar" while playing, this is the ultimate lead horn. Great for loud or non-amplified gigs.
Tone is focused and pure.
Kyle pointed out the unique sound qualities of the SC to me at ITG 2001. Contact him on specifics. |
