WEll I did it - after having played and/or owned most other trumpet brands out there, I found a 1963 Back Strad #38 that I liked and is now my main axe. Question for you Bach experts - I was told that although this horn says Elkhart on the bell, it is one of the Mount Vernons because real Elkharts were not produced until 1965. True? It won't matter anyway, because the horn plays very well regardless of its origin, but I thought I'd ask. |

if the serial is above #30000 and the bell says Elkhart, it's a Elkhart and have been build in or after 1965. Also there must be a stamp on the 2nd valve that says Bach NY Mt.Vernon if it's a Mt.Vernon. _________________ www.erikveldkamp.com |

I play a Mt.Vernon ML 37 (1964) and played a ML 37 Elkhart (1965). The difference is that the Mt.Vernon has a much richer sound and is a fantastic leadhorn for me. The Elkhart also played very good but had less sizzle in the high register, but had a more warmer sound for me. The Mt.Vernons I played had all a very nice projection, I only got the same feeling more or less with a new Bach Sterling Plus. _________________ www.erikveldkamp.com |

Guys - My Bach is a Medium (NOT ML) and the bell says "Model 38." Is this like the modern 37? |

No there are already 72 different bellsizes made by V.Bach. I have a NY M bore with a 38 bell. This one was made in 1941 ! _________________ www.erikveldkamp.com |
