I recently purchase a ward clamp as an alternative to heavyweight valve caps. The clamp is place on the front curve of the bell tubing, and it can be adjusted for brightness and darkness by sliding it up of down. I used it on my Schilke B1, and it really did affect the tonal color. It also seems to improve or enhance slotting. Chuck McAlexander of the Brass Lab inNY makes them now. The'yre worth checking out. _________________ Horatio Hornblower

I'm interested in all of these aftermarket modifications...it's fun and instructive to experiment with ways to alter/enhance a trumpet's performance.
I play a schilke B1Lb, and hate heavy caps on it, though I like them on my ambassador...if I understand this product correctly, it will have a different effect from valve caps.
One thing though: the B1 is designed to slot loosely, so I wouldn't think in terms of the clamp IMPROVING its slotting, but rather simply making it tighter. Which in my book is not necessarily better. |

CHuck McAlexander's Brass Lab doesn't have a website. He is located in NY. I don't have his phone number but he listed in the Manhattan directory. _________________ Horatio Hornblower

I think I mentioned that the ward clamp is something of an alternative to heavy weight valve caps and shims . Depending on how you adjust the clamp, it brightens or darkens the tone. As for high note playing, it does not enhance your ability to play higher.
