So, I noticed that the Bells super lube seems to be the only trumpet valve oil I've seen using a spray bottle. It was recommended to me by that guy that the spray actually be put into the casing rather than on the valve. Anyone ever put their oils into one of those generic spray containers trombone players buy? I don't know the science behind the oils if they don't break up well enough to spray right or it defeats the purpose, etc...but it just seems odd that there are so few spray-bottle oils for anything other than trombone. Why is this?

Oil in a spray bottle? Sounds messy to me. Remember, trombonists are spraying a harmless water mist on their slide. _________________ C. G. Conn 60B Super Connstellation

I like to spray the valves, the slides... a little behind each ear. _________________ Yamaha 6345S Bb Trumpet

There is at least one other valve oil that uses a spay mist system, besides Bells. (Black Lightening, Swab co.)
I like the spray mist application better than dripping the oil on to the valves.
I fill up a mist bottle with Ultra Pure lamp oil, and spray a couple of shots down the leadpipe when I finish practicing. |

I use Bell's Super Lube and like the oil. I have tried both spraying the oil down the cylinders and spraying it directly onto the valves. I prefer spraying it on the valves. But it can be a bit messy. I always carry a rag of sorts in my horn case (an old baby diaper at the moment). I find it is a neater operation to hold the valve in front of the rag before spraying it with Super Lube. The rag catches any oil that misses the valve before it can get on something I don't want to get oily. The spray bottle works best in a vertical position, something not always possible when trying to spray oil down the cylinders. That's why I prefer spraying the valves directly. _________________ S. We had a few guys who used Bell's Oil in the spray bottle, that was until one of the flute players slipped on the over spray and broke her flute.

| I'm guessing that was stopped after the flute incident. Too bad spraying sounded handy too... |
