What method book do you use to start teaching beginners and why did you choose that method?

Standard Of Excellence, because that's how I learned and found it to help a ton. It teaches the beginner how to take care of the instrument as well as play

I use the getchell books, 40 rhythmical studies, thompson's buzzing book.........
I use these because they help me in teaching resonance, melody, and rhythms..... and then we go from there.

How come know one ever mentions the Breeze Easy line of books?

By the time a student gets through the second book in the series, they are ready for a decent chair in the school band

Call me old fashioned, but I still really like the 1st Division Band Method book to start beginners.. not for the whole band program, mind you, just for little trumpet players. I think the information and the progression are great, and chances are very good that they won't be playing out of that book once they get to band class, so the potential smart aleck factor -- "I already KNOW that one!" -- is minimized.. your local band directors will thank you for that!
