well, the bach doesnt have constant pitch center, Im sure the backbores and throats are much bigger on the monette, I belive the monette has a rounder rim. the cup sizes are pretty close I think. |

The main difference is that the Monette B4S has a V-shaped cup, where the Bach has a bowl-shaped cup. The B4S feels extremely open, while the Bach feels much more normal, partly due to cup shape, and partly due to a larger throat on the Monette.
Personally, I simply cant play the B4S, as it's just too open for me. The Megatone 3C, on the other hand, seems to be an excellent mouthpiece (I came very close to buying one last weekend after trying it out for awhile in the store, until I realized there's absolutely nothing wrong with my current mouthpiece.)
With the Monette, I couldn't get any kind of focused tone, where as the Bach gave me a rich, full sound. This will vary according to how much resistance your own body/horn combination provides.

I agree with musiclifeline--the Bach 3C megatone is less open and darker. However, it is an excellent piece, probably very underrated in today's high tech market. It does have a larger throat than the regular 3C, but not as open as the Monette. Just my bias, but the Monette sounds more commercial to me and the Bach more orchestral, whatever that means. Anyway, the point is, the similarities are superficial--it's apples and oranges. |

The implication is that other mpcs have "variable pitch centers". I think not.
I think it's a bit of Monette mumbo-jumbo. I played a Monette mpc or two, and they can be fine with the right horn, but there's nothing magic or all that different about them, IMHO.

When I get my money, I'm thinking of buying on of Bach 3C Megatone.
Is there much difference in goldplating and silverplating on this piece? _________________

I play both and MUCH prefer the Monette - don't really know why, though... It just seems to focus my sound a little better and slot a little easier. For some reason, it's also a little better above the staff (for me, anyway). I use the Monette on my Caliccio and the 3C on most everything else. Hmmm... maybe it's the Caliccio and not the mouthpiece! Actually, I have tried both mouthpieces on the Caliccio and the Monette is much "better".
Note: Actual mileage may vary...
