I have two current favorites: my 1953 Olds Recording and my 1941 Reynolds cornet.
However, this topic might generate more interest in the Cornet/Flugelhorn forum.

There are a bunch. New ones and old ones and very old ones. Within each group are many possibilities. With the old and very old category, what matters most is condition (as long as it is a great player originally) Olds cornets have a very good chance of being great because they started out that way, but if the valves are rusted, it won't play at all... Old and very old cornets come original or reconditioned. Either can be good or lousy. As to new cornets, pick a make, they probably have something good. Kanstul, Besson, Bach, Cortois, Stomvi, on and on. Then the hand made cornets for mucho money...Taylors and Monets and...what's that English hand made one?... Cornets come in a variety of wraps (shapes) and some are bright and some are dark. What do YOU want? |
