"Wireless Mic.?"

With all the talk about wireless microphones in an earlier posted topic entitled "electronics" I was wondering what make and model of wireless was used for the BLAST horns. I got a good close-up look at the mike when they were all running around but did not notice a body-pak. The Mic looked like an AKG. I am interested in the AMT/SAMSON system. The transmitter is built right into the mic and clip housing with no wire or body-pak.
Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

The mic packs are actually held right on the instrument. On a trumpet, for example, the pack is on the left side of the valve section (I think). This is probably quite important, as they are quite frequently throwing their horns through the air!

I haven't a clue what brand or model they are or anything of the like, but from what I understand, they are quite expensive - some cast members said $5,000 or so for the mic equipment on each horn.
(I know that sounds like a ridiculously large number, but I heard it from the source.)

Thanks for the info.! I knew they had some sort of mounted transmitter but it must be either a very slim-line or custom built because up close you can barely see any type of bulge from the valve casing cover?! And you're right. It would have to be fairly light the way they throw those horns in the air! Maybe they do cost a "high buck" due to the design?

Go with the SHURE system. I've used both Shure & Samson, & I like the Shure because (principally) the mic & transmitter are connected with a removable $6 cable, as opposed to the Samson, where the mic is permanently attatched to the transmitter. Shure also has a good repair policy, and a quick turnaround. It is really the best there is, for those who aren't named Brecker.

what's with Brecker? Is there a story here I'm not getting?

I have a friend of a friend who is playing stomp, so I'll try to find out through him and let you know what they are using.

Those Shure wirelesses are very nice. Make sure you get the expanda-clip mounting, rather than the screw-clip. It's a pain in the neck, and easy for instruments to get dropped trying to screw that puppy on...

No, just that Brecker's is a custom job, I believe, and costs $$$$$$$. I actually spent an extra $40 to buy a different mic clip, but not because it was easy to drop my horn. I kept stripping screws. The Shure clip is just a pain to use.
