Has anyone played any of the new Curry 3 series pieces? I know they have a slight rim and diameter tweak. I ask this because I want to buy a Curry 3C, but I'm unsure whether I should I try to get an "old" or a "new" 3c. Also, if I buy from, say, mouthpieceexpress, how can I tell if I'm getting and old or new 3C?

Thanks,
Tim

I hope this message i get from Mark Curry few month ago can help you, stef:

Only the Curry 3 standard series rims will be altered. It's a slight
alteration that will result in a rim that feels a little more "3-like" to
the average player.
Comments from the players that have played this previous custom
mouthpiece say that it feels a little less "sloppy", and has a wonderful
compact sound.
I am currently identifying the "new" 3 mouthpieces with a "period" after
the size (ex. 3C.) When my smaller marking type arrives, I will drop the
period.
No other inner diameter changes are planned for the rest of the line. I
WILL increase the outer diameter of the 7 and 10.5 rims very slightly, 13
and 20 thousandths (inch) repectively as current stock needs to be replaced.
This will give slightly more cushion and result in more comfort and
increased endurance.
My reason for doing this is simple: As my Company grows and I get futher
removed from my customer base, I have less and less time to explain to
customers that the reason my "old" 3C feels "bigger" than my 1.5C is that it
was based on an old original that in some ways WAS bigger than the 1.5C.
In essence, I'm doing what V.Bach did in the 1960-1963 period when he
"standardized" the Bach trumpet line after Selmer bought the V. Bach Corp.

I can't speak for the older Curry 3C as I haven't played one, but I definitely recommend the new model 3C. I picked up one about a month ago and my other mouthpieces haven't seen my horn since.

I've historically played on a Bach 3C and was looking to get something that didn't bite as much... the Curry feels a lot better to me. Less effort, more control and endurance... can't say enough good stuff about it.
