I'd like to recommend Clark Terry's new album, "Porgy & Bess", which has Clark playing the Gil Evans arrangements written for Miles Davis, as transcribed by Jeff Lindberg and performed by the Chicago Jazz Orchestra.
Really, really good stuff, and very interesting to compare and contrast the interpretations of Miles and Clark. If I sound half as good as Clark when I'm 84, I'll be a lucky old man. _________________ Jeff Helgesen

Jeff -- you're killing me. I'm already gonna get creamed for buying the new Miles Davis boxed set. I should have brought a more comfortable couch to sleep on... <sigh> _________________ Eric M. Brewington

what new Miles box set?!!
[edit]
OK I found it...jeez, another one to buy.
Word has it that eventually they will release a set that covers the early to mid-70s stuff. I can't wait for that one...
Would you mind posting a brief review of the 7 Steps one? _________________ Scott

I have to confess that I recorded and played with this band a few times in their previous incarnation, as the Jazz Members Big Band.
The lead player on the session is Danny Barber, a Ferguson alum.
This is the same organization that did the Brownie w/Strings recreation with Nick Payton several months back.
Lindberg (director) did a really large number of very accurate transcriptions of the Ellington and Basie libraries back in the 70s and 80s. He's very gifted. |

Lindberg also directs the Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble at The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio (my alma mater). I had the opportunity to play under him for two years...he's a wonderful musician and an even nicer person. Great to hear that others appreciate his work!
