Hey,
Just wonderin, what do you guys think about Chuck Mangione? Personally, I love his music and his Awesome Flugelhorn playing. I love his songs "Feels So Good" and "Give It All You Got."

Although I haven't entirely been a big fan of Chuck's playing (he does have moments though), I was always impressed with his writing and arranging!!! Huge fan!! Check out "Live at the Hollywood Bowl". Jeff Tyscik ( I may have goofed the last name spelling) is doing some pretty lead work on that recording. Band and Orchestra...Awsome!

Chuck is known more for his arranging than his playing. I have met him several times and is a great person. He has lots of fun doing what he does. Now he is picking up the trumpet a little bit more and is arranging better than ever!

I met Chuck on the second floor (the lounge) in ESM in 1979. He was very gracious and talked about what he was doing in the middle of his high time in the music biz. I really was grateful he took the time to talk to me at that point in his career. A good guy, IMHO. BTW, he didn't know me from adam at the time, which made this conversation even more appreciated and interesting.

Check out Bellavia. Jeff Tyzik and Allen Vizzutti in the trumpet section. Wow!

Chuck plays very well, other than his commercially known favorites. He came to Boise a couple of years ago, and was blowing with Ernie Watts and Bobby Shew at a jam. Boy can hold his own...

Hey, Chuck isn't my favorite you know, but he is a pretty respectable player. Anyone see his cameo on the cartoon series King of the Hill?? I never watch that show, but I was flipping channels, and they were playing a baseball game on the show, and I stopped because I heard this kick ass flugelhorn solo of the national anthem. I thought"no way!" but yep, it was unmistakable, and there was a pretty good animated Chuck playing flugel out on the diamond. LOL!

If I recall correctly, didn't Chuck also get blown up in the Mega-Low-Mart?

I dunno where Jeff is these days. Last I heard he was still in LA, working his ass off. But, that's a few years back.

Anyone with a real clue???

LOL!!!! As I said, I don't watch that show typically, so I didn't stick around and watch the rest. However, even though I like the guy, it does give me a laugh to think of Chuck or anyone else getting blown up in the Mega Low Mart.

I saw Jeff Tyzik about two years ago.
He was musical director for Arturo. Arturo did an orchestra gig and it was quite cool.

Mangione isn't my favorite horn player, but he has always been my favorite composer/aranger/recording artist.
My favorites:
Land of make beleive
Hill where the lord hides
chase the clouds away
Bellavia

Chris Vadala did some amazing flute and sax work whith Mangione. What a treat to listen to.

Best Mangione album?
"Live at the Hollywood Bowl" without a doubt!

Jeff Tyzik is one of the conductors of the Rochester Pops and recently was awarded a professorship at the Eastman School of Music.

Chuck is one of the greatest flugle players ever. Great composer too. I love feels so good, land of make believe, and bellavia. every time I play-test a flugle I play feels so good, and it usually does.

BTW, does anyone know where to get Tabs or sheet music for free on the net of songs like "Feels So Good" or other popular songs? Also have you guys ever heard of a "Tribert Moderne" Flugel? I have one and I really like it.

Jeff Tyzik was guest conductor of my hometown orchestra (Erie Philharmonic Pops, Erie, PA) up until 2-3 years ago. Always liked his lead playing with Mangione........

I only have one work by Chuck Mangione ... Children of Sanchez. Although he plays very sloppy on most of the cuts I still dig his playing and sound. I just like the music of this album... maybe more than his playing.
