Yeah Dave thanks for the tip! I've never tried that and yet, it makes absolute sense! Funny how we sometimes overlook the things that stare us right in th face!

I wish I had a piccolo with a leadpipe to practice on. I use a length of clear plastic, flexible tubing for mouthpiece buzzing and breathing exercises. It fits snugly over the shank when doing buzzing, and is big enough for good breathing work.

I have found the JO RAL short cut to be better than the berp or leadpipes from Bb or pic's. A wide range of adjustment is possible for different resistances.
Try it they are awesome and they have been around for years. No need to risk dinging or damaging your pic pipe.

Regards
WB

I do this a lot in hotel rooms when travelling. A Jo Ral shortcut helps with the resistance and if you hold a towel over it and turn the shower on high it can help muffle the sound. They probably wonder why I use thousands of gallons of water everyday.

I guess I'm wierd. I just use a mouthpiece combined with a trumpet to improve my trumpet playing.

Worked (and still works) for me,

This is a question that is for the people that do mouthpiece or lip buzzing prior to playing.

Do you ever end up having a problem after doing buzzing exercises getting the proper resonance out of the horn?

I find that if I buzz with just the mouthpiece, or even with just the leadpipe with the tuning slide removed, that I have a really hard time getting my lips to vibrate and resonate with the horn because my lips have already adapted to the resonance of just the leadpipe. I'm with John Mohan on this one in that I just use the mouthpiece with the horn.
