Here is a name I never see mentioned. Mac Gollehon. He has done a nice tribute to Fats Navarro CD, and I heard him play lead trumpet in Tom Harrell's "Time's Mirror" big band some years ago at the old Iridium club in NY. Started out with Lester Bowie's Brass Fantasy..and continued with that group even after Lester's death.

...not to mention that he's played for years with Duran Duran, and is the trumpet player on David Bowie's "Let's Dance."
Mac's here in the city, sounding great. I see him every now and again on salsa gigs, and he's got unbelievable control of the upper register.
He plays every week at a steak house called Shelley's, and I hear he's playing euphonium and valve trombone, too.
