Recently I got a very good book called Teaching Brass by the Danish teacher and trumpet player Kristian Steenstrup. I liked it so much that I contacted Kristian and asked him for an interview. He said ok, and we have just finished it.
About Teaching Brass, Vincent Cichowicz says:
Quote: | Kristian Steenstrup's Teaching Brass is a most comprehensive and detailed treatise on the pedagogical requirements associated with sound principles of performance on a brass instrument. His treatment of the laws of physics, physiology and psychology provides a wonderful guide to the interrelationship of these disciplines in performance practice. His research and documentation are impressive and I believe this volume to be a worthy addition to this field of study

Ole -- Thanks very much! You are a gem, sir.
I also noticed that the Windsong Press site has greatly expanded since my last visit, and is worth checking out.
As is Ole's excellent website, btw.
Thanks again! - Don _________________ Don Herman/Monument, CO

Funny to find that book mentioned here - we just discussed that book in one of my literature classes yesterday. The presenter seemed impressed with it and highly recommended it. Is Steenstrup still in London or is he back in Denmark?
Another excellent read is Keith Johnson's Brass Pedagogy and Performance - a lot of thought provoking stuff.

I think Kristian is in Aarhus right now (Denmark), but he holds teaching positions both there and in London, so I guess he do a bit of commuting.
Apropos the interview with Kristian, he mention the "tight-gut" method. Go to the WindSong Press website and have a look at the videoclips there. One of the thing you will find, is Arnold Jacobs talking about the "tight gut".
As Don says, it is a great resource for all wind players!
