I have a King Tempo Cornet produced in the early 60's from what the King website says. The numbers 623 is stamped on one of the slides. Anyone have any idea if this is a professional model?

Disregard the 623, it matches the last 3 #s of the serial #.

Howeverrrr......... don't let that put you off. Yes it is the student line, but they were some pretty well made horns. I had a silver Tempo that I traded in on my first Strad, and in my opinion traded away the better trumpet. The 60's Kings were pretty well built, and seem to hold up well with time.

Here's what my old King catalog says about the Tempo cornet:
1302 TEMPO
Sparkling nickel finish attractively trimmed with brass and clear lacquered. The Tempo model is an ideal choice for the advanced student, and its gleaming nickel finish offers the maximum in durability. Bore .458", Bell diameter 4 5/8".

King made six cornet models in this lineup:
1067-S King Super-20 Master Model with Solid Sterling Silver Bell
1065-S King Master Model with Solid Sterling Silver Bell
1066 King Super-20 Master Model
1065 King Master Model
1302 Tempo
602 Cleveland

All had .458" bore and 4 5/8" bells

King had a very impressive high quality cornet line in the sixties.
