I just came from a trumpet store today and I played out a jean batiste. They guy said it was just like a bach stradaverius but 800 dollars cheapers just because of the known name. I didn't try thr bach though but if anyone has which would be a better trumpet. And if you read from one of recent threads about the Giardinelli 312, I can't get it because my dad wants to get it from a store, let me play it first and...bargain lol.

The only jean batiste trumpet I ever played was a big piece of junk.Stay away! You are much better off with a used horn or a student model jupiter or yamaha.

Top Jean Baptiste trumpets are actually B&S Challengers (I) according to the Sam Ash people. Don't worry, its a decent horn.

Where did you hear that? I had a student with one of those and it was nothing but problems. It had to be the most dreadfull trumpet that I had ever played.

my wife bought a J. Baptiste flugal--their cheap flugal was a Chinese piece of junk but the top of the line J. Baptiste played great and when we got it home it had a B&S mouthpiece and cleaning cloth. We had played 7 or 8 different brands( Bach,Jupiter,Blessing and so forth)and this horn was the best of the bunch. old geezer Dave
p.s. we had gone to 3 different music stores to try out flugals

Trumpet dude, i would definitly invest the 900-1000$ in a used bach stradivarius or nice pro model yammie, the few hundred dollars may seem like a lot but playing a junk horn just makes the whole trumpet playing and learning process a whole lot harder, their are also a lot of vintage horns out there that a lot of people really love such as Olds: ambassadors, recording etc that a lot of people really love, i have also played a few conn22b's that were great horns for less money than a used strad, i would DEFINITLY stay away from the monique, jean baptiste, tristar, any of this is pure junk.

If you can't afford a pro horn - how much is a yamaha 4335GS? These are very good student/intermediate horns in my opinion and would last you years and blend into any ensemble. Try them out at the shop if they are within your budget. I agree though that a used pro instrument is probably the best way to go. You may be able to pick up a used 6335HS2 which is is an excellent instrument, and usually a bit cheaper than a Bach Strad.

Hope this helps,

MM
