Just listened to Rafel Mendez play the Paganini - Moto Perpetuo. When does he get in a breath? It's hard to tell listening to it. He must be able to be a huge quick breath in a millisecond. |

It's my understanding that he could circular breath. I've tried it but no way can I breath in while I am blowing out.

to learn to circular breath start by breathing in and playing a note then catching air in your mouth and pushing out with your cheeks while closing off your throat. after you get used to that then try breathing in through your nose while doing it.

Mendez was a master of circular breathing and tongueing. I don't particularly like his sound that much, but what technique. _________________ Best Regards, Play Well!! |

I dun think wynton slurs the whole piece at all...... i have both recordings... and Wynton's one is much much better... You may say Rafeal tongues clearer.. but is that the correct way? Wynton tongues too for you information... its just that he tongues it lightly... a daa instead of a not so pleasing tark tark sound. Go listen... wynton is the real master...get a Sonique mp3 player... slow the piece down to half the original speed.. you will be able to hear wynton tonguing. He tongues it correctly, rafeal sadly is just too rough.... Staccato is short, detached, Not as short as possible... |

And one more thing to add, you are like comparing arturo and wynton on the hummel concerto. Both play well... wynton's tonguing is soft but arturo is hard and has the tark tark sound, just like rafeal... and arturo changing of notes is also quite unpleasent... wynton's the best..... trust me... |

The piece is also written with slurs and phrasing... wynton plays the way its written... Rafeal tongues all the way and doesn't bother about lip slurs.... Wynton needs to lip slur... which is m,uch harder |

I thought in the carnival book that it said he slurred the whole thing? and isn't it all marked slurred throughout? I used to fall asleep to this song trying to learn by osmosis ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Andrew Fowler
