I use them about half the time depending upon the playing situation. I have experienced no negative aspects, but it does take about 2 days to get used to the response when the mega sleeve is on.
The theory behind them is that the larger mouthpiece (and mega sleeve) take sympathetic vibrations that are lost with normal size mouthpieces and channel the vibrations back into the horn. This gives a 'darker' sound because there are more vibrations being put into the horn. At least that is how it has been explained to me.
I do notice that the sound is darker and accuracy seems to improve as well. So, no negative affects and a darker sound seems like it would be money not wasted. |
