|
|
Seeing trumpetmike’s 999 (and counting) post come to the top, I thought it would be interesting to see how many posts everyone made in their first week and what forums those posts were in.
I had 15 in my first week:
8 - Pedagogy
3 - Recordings
2 - Fundamentals
1 - Literature
1 - High Range Development
Last week I had 28 and it looked like this:
13 - Orchestral / Chamber Music / Solo
6 - Pedagogy
6 - The Lounge
1 - Fundamentals
1 - Horns
1 - Schools
I recall MarchardFerguson had something like 80+ his first day (I'm not sure how many he had in the first week). _________________ Derek Reaban

I dread to think, but I seem to remember that my first posts were praising the Blackburn Eb cornet and recounting a story of when I went to visit the Amati shop in Prague. Not to mention the story behind the Bessons stuff you see on Ebay.
Maybe it's time to revisit some old haunts? |

Marchard killed the record in a day like Wilt Chamberlin killed the most points in a basketball game record, and I doubt it will ever be matched. What ever happened to him anyways?
Oh yeah, he's probably practicing. _________________ Trumpet: Bach 180LR, 72 bell

Under my "new and improved post zapping" username, I made nine posts. When I first joined TH waaaaaaaaaaay back in 2003, I set up a username but I don't think I posted in the first week after I registere -- if I did, it was only a couple of posts (I think). _________________ Steve Thiel |

From the annals of trumpetmike -- THe Man, THe MyTH, THe Legend:
Chapter 1: trumpetmike's first post
The thread: "Händel - Let the bright seraphim"
The timestamp: Sat Aug 16, 2003 2:07 pm (EST)
The text: trumpetmike wrote: | I know that this might seem a revolutionary idea, but have you thought of performing this piece on a D trumpet? In my experience (which I admit may not be as great as some of the players on this forum, but I have performed it many times) this has been a very successful way of not only being able to play the first note, but also a good way of matching the timbre of a soprano voice.
Something we, as trumpeters, often forget with this piece is that the soprano is the important performer (she has the words!), we are just part of the orchestra.
It might also be worth remembering that the instrument for which this piece was written was not the modern piccolo trumpet (with the bright sound that seems to be popular the moment) but a baroque natural trumpet which, when in the hands of an expert, has a beautiful mellow sound. Crispian Steele-Perkins has released an excellent recording of this work, performed on a natural trumpet, through the Carlton Classics label.
If you are definitely performing this piece on the piccolo, I would agree with the people who have said play the note up an octave. I have seen this done a number of times in concert. Only trumpet players will ever say anything!

[Editor's Comment: Surprisingly, this historically signficant post contained no references to cheese, curry, wombats, or curried wombats with cheese sauce. Not surprisingly, it's well thought-out and quite informative from a trumpet standpoint!] _________________ Steve Thiel |

Amazingly, my viewpoint hasn't changed regarding that piece - I still perform it on a D trumpet (haven't done so for days!), still think that Crispian's recording is the finest around and have only been listening to it again in the past few days - scary! |

I only had like 30 my first week really maybe a few more or less. Im to lazy to search and count how many and where they were though. _________________ You can have oodles of technique, but if you've got no tone, it's not going to be attractive to the person hearing it. I think I was checking out TH occasionally for about 4 months before I even registered, then it was like another couple of months before my first post. My registering really coincided with the week I dug my Ambassador and Strad out of storage and became a comebacker.

I don't know how many I made in the first week, but I just went and checked and the first post I made was about the death of a good friend
I must have been feeling rotten and hanging out at another trumpet site, when someone told me about TH. _________________ "Yet to all who received Him, and believed in His name, He gave the right to become sons of God" John

I can't believe I made 22 posts in one week! That's something like 12% of all of my posts over the past 3 years! I am lucky if I have time to post at all lately, unless I'm really bored or can't sleep (like right now).
The breakdown:
Performers - 6
Fundamentals -3
Recordings - 3
Orchestral/Chamber/Solo - 3
James Stamp - 2
Literature, Other Toys, Pedagogy, High Range Development, Lounge - 1 each _________________ Danelle Wilbraham |

whatever I have now (70-somthing, I think) is what I hve in my first week. I think Yesterday was my week anaversery.. but I could be very wrong. I mostly havn't posted in about three days, either. So it's more like by first four days... lol I think 90% of them were in The Lounge. At least. _________________ ---->D3N
