Hi everyone...
I've been reading this thread on the Sotto Voce mute, and don't normally chime in, but I've been very happy with this mute, so I figured I'd make a post (my first one). Smooth, soft and easy... that's the best way I can describe it. Of all my "soft" mutes, this is hands down the winner. With the Sotto you get a full sound without sacrificing intonation or ease of playing. I've travelled a bit with it already, and have had no durability issues... it's reinforced in all the right places, and doesn't seem to need any special handling. Through the years I'm sure many of us have gone through the usual suspects... all the felt bags and hats, etc., but I think this is finally "it".

(I know, ancient thread. Sorry.)
I got a Sotto Voce mute recently. It was shipped to me loose with packing peanuts in a box also containing four bottles of valve oil and a bubble-wrapped mouthpiece. The mute arrived somewhat "worn" but not crushed, and I figured I'd better figure out a way to protect it in the future when I also have a pile of metal mutes.
(Cue the A-Team music)
I have a 3d printer so I designed a quick-and-dirty case for the mute. Here's the result. It's very thin plastic but should resist crushing. I didn't give a lot of forethought to the attachment of the base to the top, so I used gaffer tape to make a hinge and a couple small screws with a (3d-printed) latch.
If anyone wants the files please let me know.

Great idea. I carried mine around with my other mutes and it ended up a little bedraggled. |
