Lara,
Band of the Hour is, supposedly, a nice program to be in. I'm not marching (other plans for my weekends), but my room mate, whom I have known and marched with for many years, really enjoys the group, though he is a snare player...
Phillip Clements is the current BotH director. He also directs the symphonic winds.

Okay, lets see if it worked.
Here (hopefully) is a picture of me with an Out-of-Tunephone.
My solo is the oboe solo in Swan Lake, but on horn. I'm pretty proud of it. Everybody says its sounds good on horn, and for some reason it didn't really work on trumpet. I don't mnow, I guess it takes an instrument that can really, really play out of tune. _________________ Kickin' brass and takin' names. |

hehe. nice.
thats an odd looking mellophone though. it seems kinda bloated compared to the ones im used to seeing.
the mellophones are at the end.
(btw, that was homecoming, so a bunch of alumni came back to join the band and have a fun time. it was a heck of a time!) _________________ "Music is a combination of logic and emotion that together express more than either could possibly express alone." |

Actually, it's not a mellophone. It's actually a marching french horn, and I don't know if theres another name for it. It's a really confusing, and I still don't have a solid concept on what it actually is. I think that it's kinda like a double french but with the trigger always held down. Thats how in plays, but it works with regular key of F music. So I'm guessing it's plays like its in
b flat, but in F.
It confuses the hell out of me. _________________ Kickin' brass and takin' names. |

Me too, but I was apparently wrong. I think mellowphones are in B flat, but marching frech horns play like they are in b flat. Whats even more confusing is trying to explain it to incominng freshman. _________________ Kickin' brass and takin' names. |

yeah...?
That is a smaller practice concert tuba that we had to convert to a marching tuba because we didnt have any more of the big ones to use for the alumni. _________________ "Music is a combination of logic and emotion that together express more than either could possibly express alone." |

See, deres Vista, Mother Goose, and Arcadia...hopefully championships, but I kinda doubt it.
I guess it's getting time to put away the marching horns, take a seat, and pull out the big, round confusing concert horn, at least we got some GREAT concert music lined up this year. I'm sure we'll make it to regionals again this year.
Wow, I kinda got off topic, oh well, I guess I'm excited. |
Let's hear it for the seniors!!!!
Yeah, I know what you mean about concert season starting....I can't wait. Heck, if I could sit in a band/orchestra/combo/ensemble of some sort and play music and rehearse all day every day, I'd be a very happy person. There's nothing like that feeling you get when you sit down to rehearse with the group....and then the concerts....where you get to share all your hardwork and wonderful music with others....it's so great.

Luckily, we get to host SCSBOA for concert season, it's hard work.

Actually, our band uniforms are pretty old. The ''metal things" are called gauntlets and they're basically fabric with really crappy gold foil on them...that flakes off and then they just color in the white flaked off parts with a metallic gold sharpie.
They actually had to get the band Mom's to help change our uniforms, because we didn't have enough money in the budget to buy new ones.
They look better now though....

gauntlets = hell! our uniforms are butt-ugly, i'll get some pictures up when they're available from the photographer's website. But we're getting new uniforms next year! I must've said this three times already this thread! _________________ Peter: Oh my god, Brian, there's a message in my Alphabits. It says, 'Oooooo.'
