Hello all....even though I live in New York i still find it hard to find recording of good trumpet players. I was wondering where online can I find good trumpet recording. Or if anyone lives in NYC where can I find it there. |

You live in NYC? You might start by looking in the phone book.

I really like Amazon.com and prms.org (NPR website) prms.org is cheaper and both have very good selections of all the std players and repritore (sp?). Also, if you just want orchestral music, you might try a music club like columbia house or bmg but these are short on classical music in general and trumpet specifically.

I have purchased a lot of jazz records from amazon and half.com. They have a huge selection of music available. You can get most of their selections used. Their used records are in excellent condition, plus you get them at a great price (which is good for your wallet ). _________________ LTD

Try Virgin Records in New York City. I visit their store when I take my trumpet lessons. You can also try Tower Records and Barnes and Noble there, too.

Check out the world's largest jazz record store (8,500 square feet), Chicago's Jazz Record Mart. Their Webstore is at http://www.jazzmart.com/jrm.home.htm If you're ever in Chicago, you'll find the Mart at 444 N. Wabash, just West of Michigan Avenue.
Have fun!

Don't forget to check out the used CD and record stores. We have one in the Tampa area called The Sound Exchange. They always have a pretty good selection of jazz on old vinyl and CDs. They carry new and used stuff. I bought some Wallace Roney and Roy Hargrove recordings there recently. I'm sure most major cities would have such a store. If not somebody could make some money.

In NYC a good location to go to in right by Lincoln Center. There are three places that have great trumpet, Classical and Jazz Recordings. All within one block you have Tower, Barnes & Noble and the Juilliard bookstore. These places will have just about anything you would want.

Amen to that. Kurick, check out Academy Records & CDs on 12 West 18th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues). It's a used CD store that specializes in classical music and jazz. Music reviewers often unload their complimentary copies here, so you often see new stuff as well (I just picked up the brand new Chris Botti album "December" that was still in its original shrink wrap for $5.95!). They have a modest trumpet section that certainly can't beat the selection at Virgin's flagship store at Union Square, but for $3-5 per CD, you can't really complain. They have a HUGE classical music and opera section, as well as a solid jazz section, at very reasonable prices. I go there every chance I get.
