I was curious as to if anyone out here has studied with Charles Butler. If so, what did you think about his style. |

Where does he teach at? Could you possibly be referring to Charles Geyer, who is married to Barbara Butler?

I haven't studdied with him and vaguely know his playing, but I do know that he is indeed refering to the right person. Charles Butler I believe is the principal of the Seattle Symphony under Gerry Schwartz. Just wanted to clear that up.

Actually, Charles Butler is no longer the principal trumpet of Seattle. There was an audition last year, which was won by Robert Sullivan of the NY Phil. He subsequently turned the job down. Another audition was held last spring, but I havent heard who won.
Does anyone know who did? |

I don't want to go into it too much, but common knowledge around here anyway, that was a bunch of political stuff going on there. Frankly many people believe and feel strongly Charlie was the best principal trumpet the Seattle Symphony has ever seen. They sounded much better with him, IMO.

I believe David Gordon won the position in Seattle. He also plays in (or at least did) the Grant Park Symphony during the summers in Chicago. He's one to watch, a great player and only twenty-six. |
