Best sound goes to Roy Hargrove IMO
Even before his inderbinen era (check him on 'everything I have is yours' from 1993 of kindred souls.

Best everything else goes to Tom Harrell, as he is for me the absolute commander of the melody troough the instrument. Check him with Philip Catherine (Moods vol 1 & 2) or his solo on 'I can't get started' live with Joe LOvano (Village Vanguard). So much music and accurate versatility...

Both amazing.

As curiosity, What was Hargrove playing before his Inderbinen?

C.

You are probably right. I just got an OIRAM ACK and it's just fantastic (till I find something better )...but my Couesnon has never done me wrong.

First time I actually got to play a flugel, an acquaintance handed me a well used Couesnon. He warned that it had some dodgy intonation and wasn't in a terrific state of repair. Still, that is the sound that got imprinted on my brain to this day.

I don't think I've seen one that is not in some state of repair.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Shorty Rogers, when I think Flugel sound it’s his, maybe just me, or his arrangements.

I guess you'd have to go back to April for that!

One note and you know t's Shorty. Granted it's a more nasally sound than others but it's right up my alley.
