Any chance anyone out there has a lead part to the Ray Charles classic "Georgia" they'd be willing to share...perhaps scan and email so I can noodle around with it?
I'd appreciate it.
Jeff

Dave,
"...lots of great places to order from."
If I had been able to find it, I wouldn't have asked if anyone could "share" it. None of the shops in my area have it in any form -- sheet or otherwise.
If you or anyone out there could suggest a good source, I'm open to suggestions.
Please remember; the world is a big place, but many of us live on a small corner....
Thanks,
Jeff |

Response #2 to Summersong/Dave's reply....
I started to let this slide, but after more thought I feel that I must speak up and say this: it would have been much appreciated if in your reply you had mentioned a source you were familiar with to order the part I'm looking for instead of the question "is scanning and emailing music 'sharing?'"
To me this implies you are suggesting I have no regard for copyrights/intellectual property rights, etc.
You are mistaken, I do.
I was under the impression that one of the functions of this forum is to "share" information. And while I don't necessarily suggest we should bypass purchasing printed music, it would be nice if a one would not assume one had this in mind before responding. I would have been delighted with, "have you tried calling ZYX Music?"
If this was not your intention, I apologize. But if you read the post a couple of times it sure sounds as if I had less than honorable intentions.
Thanks,
Jeff

I see you're from Alabama. Maybe you can find a trumpeter or soprano player that marched with Spirit (of Atlanta). That's their corps song. There's a pretty good trumpet/soprano solo at the beginning of it. _________________ --Matt--

Thanks Matt, I appreciate it. If I can't run it down at J.W. Pepper I'll give 'em a shot.
I appreciate you folks that have taken time to give me starting points.

Dave,
Thanks for your reply.
I am still somewhat old fashioned in the fact that I'd much rather get a personal recommendation than wade through the endless mire that is the internet. I know it is very useful, and I probably couldn't live without it, but it can be so daunting! I like to know other's experiences with companies, etc. rather than "shooting in the dark." Call me crazy.
Again,
Thanks |

The comments on "sharing" sound very pure. However, if one follows the thought to the n'th degree, what if you borrow a score and then memorize it? In the case of guitar tablature available on the web, it is usually covered by a disclaimer that it is for educational use only. Of course tab is different as it doesn't represent an actual arrangement (no note values, etc.). With my butchering of timing my playing would be a new work rather than the composer's anyway. But, what about what you then do with the music (whether purchased or not), do you play in public, if so are royalties paid? Churches usually have a license that covers most music, but what about clubs, and what about those weddings, and parties, and . . . ? I am just asking, food for thought I guess. _________________ Ed Taylor . . . a Messianic gentile |
