What do you all think about having a gigs forum. It could be a place where we could not only discuss our gigging adventures, but possibly help each other find weekend gigs, sub gigs, etc. It would be different from the JOBS location on the site. For instance, if the band I play with has a gig, and I have a conflict, I might post something like this:
Needed: trumpet player to sub with a horn band in the Youngstown, Ohio area on October 1, 2002. Please call 555-5555 if interested.
Anyway, I think it would be cool if we were to start using each other as potential subs. The only thing would be, we would need to have a way to varify that the person responding was capable of fulfilling the job....there would be some bugs to work out, but it could potentially be a neat way to get some extra work, and to meet each other face to face possibly.
Let me know your thoughts.

After 9/11 and the stock market plunge, gigs seemed to have become pretty darn scarce. I asked a well known West Coast trumpeter this week if they are slow out there. He replied that most players are spending a lot of time sitting at home.
Hopefully people will go out more again in 2003 and the "bigs" who think nothing of dropping $20,000 on their private parties will start throwing them again. This has been my leanest gig year in the past quarter century!!!
HOW ABOUT IT EVERYONE. IS IT REAL SLOW IN YOUR AREAS TOO? |

Definetely tough out there right now. Not neccasarily the lack of gigs..but the money that club owners are willing to pay the band.
In other words; if the guys were willing to work cheap(really cheap!) we would have more work. They won't so we have more time off than usual. |
