The concept "hamburger" has been corrupted by McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King and others so that people these days, when asked about hamburgers, immediately think of an small, overcooked piece of leathery maybe meat surrounded by a tasteless, nondescript mass of white bread. There may or may not be some sort of ketchup, pickle, sauce or cheese-like substance somewhere in the mix. All this is thrust upon us by nameless, faceless, corporate worms who, most likely, would never eat what they sell us.
It doesn't have to be that way folks. We can take back our tastebuds long held hostage by corporate America. We can cast aside the chains of lard laden, quasi food. We can rise up and demand real, honest, American food. Start with hamburgers and fight until the last pseudo taco, the final ersatz fired chicken, the last soulless imitation of of true food disappears from our shores. Right now, my favorite place is a joint called "The Vortex" in Atlanta.
Quote: | Our Award-Winning, chargrilled Vortex Burgers are made with a half-pound of 100% choice sirloin. They're big, juicy and delicious -- and we'll cook 'em to any temperature you'd like. |
They've got a great beer selection, as well. _________________ John Ford's next stop:

Here here, I hope someone has a nice thick burgers on the grill this weekend at one of parties I'll be attending. I want one with diced onions inside, a bit of Old Bay seasoning and marinated for a while in Worcestershire sauce. No flat flimsy burgers for me; if I’m gonna eat a burger, I want a BURGER.

John, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been past that place but never went inside; hhhmmmmm wonder why!
Also, I think all the kids standing outside with the purple spiked hair, tattoos and piercing caused me to keep on steppin’. I may go in and check it out next time; I’ve always enjoyed the Little 5, it’s a great place for 'people watching'. _________________ Allen - 'Chops-in-Hotlanta'

Chuck, Little 5 Points in Atlanta Ga is a very interesting area. You'll see everything from little old men with their white belts and white shoes, to punk rockers with spiked orange hair, to Harley bikers with their biker babes, to young rich kids driving around in daddy's Hummer. It's a very interesting area; I even saw Bill Clinton and Al Gore in the area back when they were running for office the first time. _________________ Allen - 'Chops-in-Hotlanta'

From what I've heard, they sound similar to a Krystle's, if you've got one of those.
My favorite fast-food burger is from Milo's - meat and a barbque style sauce (with pickles and diced onions if you want them) and that's the only way they come.
Cheeburger-Cheeburger has some good burgers and onion rings. Also, a place here in Tuscaloosa called Rama-Jama's is pretty good. _________________ --Matt--

OK, I really don't know any on the initial list, but has anyone ever heard of, "Fuddruckers"? We have them here in PA.
Check them out: http://www.fuddruckers.com/

We have Fuddruckers all over Texas, great stuff, and a second nomination for Whataburger, but, there's this hole in the wall place near where I live called Cafe Espanol, and though it's supposed to be a Mexican food restaurant, they're famous on the east side of Houston for their legendary Gringo Burger which is a pound of meat and one of the greatest burgers I've ever eaten, the funny part is that they make a double and a triple, nobody has yet to take on a triple, at least not without a heart attack _________________ If the track is tough and the hill is rough, THINKING you can just ain't enough! - Shel Silverstein |
