A friend asked me what I knew about playing opportunities in the Sarasota/Bradenton area and/or the St Pete/Tampa area. It seems that community bands and the like are a pretty well kept secret. Anyone have some ideas of playing opportunities/contact info in these areas for a pretty good retired trpt player. _________________ Dave Wisner

Hose, check the following website, it has nearly 800 community bands and orchestras across the US, you might find one in his area.

Hope you can find him something from this list.

Thanks Wes. We got a couple of current names from that site. I just thought there would be more opportunities in that area. Maybe I should post this in a different category for more exposure. _________________ Dave Wisner

My girlfriend & I (both trumpet players) recently attended the first annual Florida All State Community Band in Orlando (Altamonte Springs) a few weeks ago. It was held in conjunction with the Florida Bandmasters' Association annual convention (not sure of the proper name of the event). We were very surprised to learn that there are 29 community bands throughout the state of Florida, and that 24 of them were represented at the recent event.
If you have no success at the above site, you might consider contacting the FBA, to see if they have a consolidated list w/ contact info.
Good luck! _________________ Sparks in Daytona

The pops group I played with this past few months did a combined concert with the Pensacola pops band a couple months ago, and they are a very accomplished group. |

Move to Dallas/Fort Worth area, we have well over 20 bands. Lots of music here.
Good luck on your quest.
