That's just... sad.

"Where the hell is <insert name here>?" is uncivil?

You guys have lost your collective minds. If you were trying to make an example of that particular user because of past infractions, have the guts to just say that.

Or better yet, address it through a "pm". No guts, No glory, though!
Oh, and by the way, I'm not impressed.

In most places in this country, that would warrant you a nice black eye.
Yeah? Last guy I saw try anything ended up being escorted OUT of the plane! (O'Hare) Seriously, that is another problem with this "accepted" behavior. The next level up from "I can cuss if I want to" is "Oh yeah? Well I'll kick your *ss if you don't like it". They are just different levels of a lack of respect and civility.

Bilboinsa, I apologize - I am in no way threating you, and I do not condone that behavior, for the record. My point is this, first of all , you can't make people do what YOU want them to do. Secondly, it's just a matter of reality that there are those kind of people who respond with physical force. Nobody knows who or when, so my advice is to educate your kids to what is wrong or right from YOUR perspective. That way they will know the difference. But I guarantee you, that with the statement you issued above somebody with a different perspective is going to come along and hurt you. Please don't blame your lack of educating your kids on someone elses behavior. It all starts at home.
I wish you peace and the ability to make sound, intelligent decisions.
Have a good one!

SFTBone:
No threat taken and no apology needed. I really did see a guy get booted off of a plane for "acting tough" a few weeks back at O'Hare. It's just not something that you do nowadays on a plane--stewardesses won't stand for it. Although we can't make all people do what we want, we can make MOST people do what most of us agree is the right thing to do. That is the basis of our laws--a social contract. It's when there is dissagreement as to "the right thing to do" that problems arise.

Kids on a plane aside (and btw, I would risk a black eye to keep folks from cussing in front of them--they are that important to me), this thread began with a similar "social contract". The rules were set out and open to interpretation. Right or wrong, the mods have the ultimate say so as to what the right thing to do--or what words are acceptable. I applaud them for enforcing the rules so that all ages are welcome here.

Peace and wisdom to you, too.

Yeah, it seems you can't even go to the bathroom without "big brother" taking notice. They say in the interest of National security, I say they want to control the populus. I agree with you on the appropriateness of language. A discernment, per se. I also think that forums labelled "Lounge" and "Reveille" should maintain that "you must be eighteen to enter or have parental permission".
Of course on the airplane deal, in such a confined space, you can't have some billigerant and disruptive individual! Peace!

This makes me sick to my stomach. America continues on it's downward slope to a time when the words h*** and d*** are used in daily language and widely accepted and those who reject this "slang" are scoffed at. Please, just pick another word. It's really not that difficult. Simply reach into your mind and dig out a substitute word that will fit the context. I know, it's painful, but for the sake of the minority who believe it is both wrong and offensive, try.

And thank goodness for the moderators for keeping the atmosphere clean and friendly.

Listen, son, when you've got more experience under your belt in the game of life, hopefully you'll get it. Hey! I've got it!.... Why don't you simply expand YOUR mind and realize there are far more substantial issues at stake in this world than worrying about some minor deets pertaining to vocabulary. It's quite apparent that you are MORE than a day late and a dollar short. Let's see- Hmmm!- should'nt you go practice now?.... !

Hey, grandpa, when did they get internet in the old folks home?

Personally I find that it is the kids of today that feel it isn't worth the effort to moderate their own language. The grammar police are usually the ones with "a little experience under their belt".

Well, I'm certainly glad to hear that you have it all figured out, swordfishtrombone. There are bigger fish to fry...and that is why I am not going to argue about this. I expressed my opinion, and now I'm done. Although I must add, I think LittleRusty has a valid point.

The point is that the immature seem to normally take your position and the mature T2009's.

However, I am not implying anything about your maturity.

Oh, let's see!....I get it! .... Please define mature. And for the sake of clarification, how about "normally", too! (from "YOUR" perspective, ).... I'm also a tad curious to what you may feel is "my position"(?)...Is'nt "Reveille" great?!

I can only resort to quoting someone else who I am sure you will agree with:

"Listen, son, when you've got more experience under your belt in the game of life, hopefully you'll get it."

And we have now come full circle. Bye, bye

Agreed!..... I hope it was just taken in a humorous manner.
I hope you fellas have a happy and prosperous New Year!
Hey, by the way, Rusty.... Lot of farm land in Cali, no?....What's the biggest cash crop out there? You're not a farmer are you?

I don't get it, what does farming have to do with this? (BTW, I live in the big city )

I don't understand why you feel the need to disparage someone who disagrees with your point of view. We all percieve the world through our experiences and environment and therefore will have differing opinions.

I do regret stooping to your level while trying to make a point. Please accept my apologies.

I can understand why some people have an issue with the censorship that was used as a talking point here, but I cannot understand why certain people are so passionate about it.

As has been stated numerous times this is a privately owned website that has stated rules and thus, IMHO, can choose to enforce or not enforce them at will.

I personally moderate my language when I am around children or in social situations where the patois is not appropriate. If I were called on using inappropriate language I would be embarassed at my crassness, rather than militant in how right I was in using inappropriate language.

But hey, that is just me.
