ok..i was reading a post where it was brought up that Faddis reccommends a soft center. Not to mention quite a few others on this forum. WHat is a soft center? How do you obtain it? How is it helpful?

That to me sounds like playing on the inner lips and not on the red (visible) part of the lips.
I play with a tense embrouchure.I say this cause I tire quickly and playing anything smooth is a real pain in the ****. I appreciate any and all advice you guys have.

Corners = firm /// Soft Center = lip vibration area @ maximum effciciency achieved via 'pp' playing as a practice aid.

Many others have various views on the above that work for them....

when you play pedal tones your corners are firm and the center of your lips are loose, flabby or soft depending on which adj better explains it to you.

I remember when I wanted to play high I was told to play pedal tones because the firm corners and loose center was the same setup for the upper register.

I am pretty sure we covered this on the going low to play high post that was here 6 months are so ago, you may want to check out that post if you can find it..
