Anybody use the GR leadpipes made for Couesnon flugelhorns?

I'm frustrated with getting mouthpieces made with French style backbores.

I have a few moupieces I LOVE that fit Yamahas, and wonder if the GR pipe will take those? And my Couesnon pipe has a couple chips in it, so I'd like a replacement and this seems like a good option.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

I know of at least two people who are using the GR pipe/mouthpieces on their Cousnon flugels. Both of them seem to like the pipe very much!

Count me as another satisfied user. The G/R pipe uses a standard taper mouthpiece.

The G/R pipe, IMHO, is worth it every nickel!

This is where I get confused...what is the "standard"?? Will my pieces that fit Yamaha fit that receiver??

Got it!! Thanks. So to be clear....my mouthpieces that are made to fit a Yamaha flugel are considered "standard", as is the receiver on the GR couesnon pipe...thus, I'm golden....right? My pieces that fit my old Yamaha flugs will work with this pipe...yes??

Now I have to do measuring and such to place an order.

My algebra teacher in high school WAS right!! I do need that crap in the real world!!

I would say yes based on the article, however, I have a blessing flugelhorn with a standard shank and a Claude Gordon flugelhorn mouthpiece.

Just tell the maker what mouthpiece you are using and it should clear it up.

I don't want a new mouthpiece made!! I want my couple pieces I like to work with my couesnon that don't currently fit. And I'm hoping that GR's pipe would except them.

I think if Yamaha flugelhorn pieces are considered "standard" I'm good w the new pipe. We shall see....

As Lionel suggested contact GR and tell them what you want to do. They are very helpful. When I purchased my flugel mouthpiece I traded emails with them.

I also have a GR/Melk leadpipe for my couesnon and I also love it. I strongly believe it is worth it. My understanding of the leadpipe is that it is designed to fit GR mouthpieces.

That is what I use in mine.... however I have used a stork with a bach shank and a getzen which is a yamaha shank. Both of them fit absolutely fine. My Couesnon mouthpiece does not fit.

I have read that some mouthpieces don't fit it so I would recommend contacting GR, let them know what mouthpieces you intend on using and they will tell you what works and what won't. In my experience they have great customer service.

There was a thread about this before: http://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1204212

I bought one of the GR/Melk Couesnon leadpipes a couple of years ago. For my taste, while it made it possible to use mouthpieces with a standard taper, I felt when I used it the horn lost some of the buttery smoky tone that the Couesnons are known for, so I went back to the standard Couesnon leadpipe. Just my 2 cents-other players may feel differently.

recently got one from Charlie Melk for my 60's Couesnon.
Accept standard (large) shank so had to move to standard shank mpiece , not a pb since my man at DONAT is THE MAN.

Absolute improvment in every aspect. Intonation, core of the sound, volume. tremendous IMHO
