Hey:
Blue Note just re-released these two titles:
Jackie Mclean: "Jackie's Bag". Great playing with Donald Byrd and Blue Mitchell. This is one my favorite hard bop recordings, I've been waiting for years for Blue Note to re-release this.
Freddie Hubbard: "Hub Cap". Early 60's Blue Note period Hub. Need I say more?
Thank God for Blue Note!

I keep a note pad near my radio listening chair so I can write down tunes and albums I'd like to get.
"Jackies Bag" is on the list.
thanks for info. |

"Hub Cap" was released as part of a vinyl two-fer in the late 1970s. It's been ages since I heard it, but it never impressed me like "Goin' Up" or "Ready for Freddie" or others from that period. Still, I guess anything from that period is worth looking for if you're a collector!
The other one from the two-fer, though, "Here to Stay", is worth looking for. It was in print on CD briefly a few years ago. IIRC, the band is Freddie, Wayne Shorter, Jymie Merrit, Cedar Walton, and Philly Joe Jones. It was never released in the 1960s, and is really strong... _________________ Jeff Helgesen

It's been my experience that any album on the Blue Note label is pretty good. |

I have a couple hundred Blue Note, Jazzland, Riverside, and other 50's - 60's LPS I used to pick up every week or so in Manhattan........3 for $5 7 for $10 !!! There was a record store on east 8th called Dayton and some of the little shops in the Subways would have all kinds of incredible finds.........Horace, Blakey, KD, CT, all of it. _________________ Marquis de Sade: "In art, one has to kill one's father." |
