Lee,

I hurt my neck once and was so scared that I went to an Ear/Nose/Throat Doctor.

Anyway to make a long story short, I had a catscan done and there was no damage.

I played some high notes for the doctor righ in the exam room. He said the neckpuff can cause what is known as a "Laringeoseal" I don't know if I spelled that right but it's pronounced La-Rin-ja-seel.

Doc (Reinhardt) said that he always thought the Louie Armstrongs voice was so hoarse because he had damaged his vocal cords with a neckpuff.

Many things can cause a neckpuff.

Too much "upfront" resistance. Examples; Too small/tight mouthpiece, throat or backbore.

Using too much lip compression.

delaying/ or bottling up the air on attacks

The guys who usually have trouble with their necks are tall and thin with long skinny necks.

Watch out for piccolo trumpet !

leesbrass,

Where did you find the articles on neck puff eradication? I've always been bothered by how much my throat expands when I play and I would be most interested in finding a way to stop it.

Thanks.
