2. Trumpet Showcase
3. Trumpet Spectacular
4. Presenting
and (OT) for Harry James fans, these LP's, again each for one (1) dollar (!):
1. The New James
2. The Mellow Horn
3. In Hi-Fi
4. Harry's Choice
5. Trumpet Rhapsody
and (OT) for Doc fans, for one (1) dollar (!):
1. Brass, Ivory, and Strings
All in very good condition.

As a person over 50 I have fond memeories of these.
Enjoy. Note Mendez's attempts at getting a swing sound. (Claude Gordon once told a group I was in that Mendez was in awe of players like Berigan and James.) And experience Harry's techinical mastery. Aw, the good old days. |

That was a great find! congrats. I have a couple of those. Those are finds that keep us old garage sale, thrift store and antique store scroungers hoping for that find also. _________________ Dave Rafferty Devillier Stencil (German) Besson 609

Why are some of his records so expensive on amazon? Are they out of production? |

They have been out of production for a while. Mr. Hickman had some sort of deal with the family where he produced on cd a limited number of them. I run across them frequently at used record stores. There was a period of time where I was looking for all of the Doc Command records and was able to find them all. Great stuff for us that love the trumpet!!!!!! _________________ Freelance Performer/Teacher WV, PA, MD, and OH http://www.neil-king.com

I'd take Matt up on his offer, or do it yourself. |

Mendez LPs have been out of print for over 30 years. I love collecting them. However, about 10 years ago Summit Records managed to license all of the Mendez recordings from Decca/MCA to be released on CDs. Their license was only good for five years.
I was able to purchase a large quantity of the unsold inventory when the license expired, making me perhaps the only legal vendor of these CDs. I have them available through www.HickmanMusicEditions.com and hope that people will not dub off the old LPs.

You have a neat site, Dave and some interesting brass CD's . Prior to the CD's acquired relatively recently, I have had some of the DECCA LP's off and on, usually not in great shape. My feelings were those efforts that I heard were poorly recorded in comparison with other contemporary labels. _________________ Dave Rafferty Devillier Stencil (German) Besson 609

Yes, definitely do that. I have been converting my plastic to digital and it is great. I can hear any of that stuff any time I want with my IPOD plugged into my ears, car stereo, wife's Boise in the kitchen while I'm cooking or on the stereo system in the house cranked up. I love the digital age. _________________ Praise him with the sound of the trumpet! Ps. 150:3
