Hello all,
According to the Benge catalog, there are three models of Benge Flugels. The 5, 3 and the FL1. I have seen many 3's and 5's, but have never seen any 1's come up for sale. I remember as a kid in college, the horn to buy was the 5, at least up here in here in the NW. I already had a Getzen 4 valve and didn't really need to trade for the Benge. Years later, I found a mid 70's FL5 and bought it. I have not had any regrets. So where are all the FL1's??? Hey, how about a poll for Benge Flugel players???

I have an L. A. Benge FL3 and absolutely love it. It plays extremely well and is mint condition.

I played an FL5 once and hated it. I thought it was tubby and had an unfocused sound. Maybe it was just a bad horn, but I did not like it.

I have never played or even seen an FL1.

What's the bell diameter for the Beng Fl5 models? The really slow taper gives it a unique look.

Hello all,
Sorry to answer later on the bell diameter of my FL5... It measures 6 1/8". Just to add more interest to this post, I shopped around for a trigger mechanism to add to the 3rd valve slide. I wanted a Yamaha unit, but availibility was not attainable in a reasonable timeframe. The Jupiter company was more than happy to provide the parts. I had it installed and it works great.
