I went back a few pages on this section and didn't see anything on this so I'm just passing on what I read. Apparently the powers at Ebay think that giving buyers negative feedback is hurting activity. So, sellers will no longer be able to give negative feedback to buyers--even if they rip you off. I got burned oncd by a buyer on ebay so be careful when you sell there. I think the new policy takes effect Feb 20th.

My first reaction is Yippee, with a triple high-C!
As a ripped-off buyer with perfect feedback, you can never give bad feedback to a crummy seller because there is nothing preventing him/her from giving you bad feedback in response, and all Ebay will ever do is allow you to both remove your negative feedbacks, mutually. It's like Bill Cosby's description of parents: "Parents aren't interested in 'fair'. Parents are interested in 'quiet'."
But NOW, apparently, you can do so. The seller will probably have the ability to dispute, but I doubt there will be much in the way of help from Ebay. They have far too many transactions to handle. _________________ 1938 Martin Handcraft Imperial #2 bore, 38 bell

The same holds true but in reverse. After a buyer refused to go through the transaction after winning the bid (no, nothing was changed from the original listing), he left me negative feedback because I had left him negative feedback. This was not the transaction where I was ripped off though. Right now I'm taking my chances on the TH marketplace instead of Ebay. |

Just my opinion...........
The whole concept of purchasing ANYTHING sight unseen, as on E Bay, has inherent risks. Personally, I never make any major purchases or sales of anything on E Bay. I'll risk maybe 100.00, but that's about all. Another thing about those guys. There is a reason, I think, that it's IMPOSSIBLE to actually speak via phone to anyone there. ANYONE who will not speak directly to consumers is suspect, IMO. |

I'm looking forward to slammin' a seller.
The 20 Feb 08 date is nice ... I was going to wait until the last few minutes of the 90-day "window" of opportunity to post a negative feedback, so the seller would have no chance for retribution. That 90-day expiration is 28 Feb 08 ... so, I can do what I want to do a little earlier.

Good for Ebay!
Up until now... sellers' reputations as represented by their feedback files
have been a farse!!! MOST sellers only leave feedback for buyers AFTER
positive feedback has been left for themselves. In this way sellers often
get away with bad business practices!!! If a buyer even thinks of leaving
negative feedback... he or she knows that receiving retaliatory negative
feedback is very likely. I am sure that Ebay has always been well aware
that this dynamic has been making all their sellers' honesty appear to be
much more reliable than it actually is.
That said... I must admit this, however.... I have purchased well over a
thousand musical instruments on Ebay, and I've had astoundingly good
experiences almost every time. I'd say 1% or less of my purchases are
dissappointing. That is a very acceptable rate. Still, I will also enjoy the
ability to leave negative remarks for the occasional "bad apple".
One more comment... I'm sure my bad 1% would likely be much higher
if it weren't for the fact that I'm very careful. I always make contact first
before bidding. If a seller won't allow a phone call, then I am suspicious.
Just a word to the wise...

I purchased a student horn this past August and payed for it immediately as usual, and when the horn arrived there were two braces that were broken and the mouthpiece was frozen to the receiver. The horn was not that much so I kept it. I then noticed that the seller did not leave feedback on me so I thought I would wait to see how long this went on. After about six weeks I left him a negative feedback and within hours he left a negative feedback on me even though my only obligation was to pay for the trumpet. I then looked again at the picture he posted and saw a shadow that indicated that the brace was broken at the time of the photograph so I complained to ebay. At first it seemed like something was going to be done by them as I asked that his selling privileges be suspended. But nothing happened except that I got an e-mail from the seller saying he would drop my negative rating if I would drop his. No way Jose. I have a note by my negative rating saying he posted a picture of a broken horn that was not apparent upon reasonable inspection, and then misrepresented the horn. _________________ Richard

This is why they're changing it. I have never left a negative feedback, for fear of getting my pristine 100% deflowered. _________________ 1938 Martin Handcraft Imperial #2 bore, 38 bell

Not horn related, but I purchased a laptop battery on EBay and paid immediately and the seller kept make one excuse after another. I contacted EBay and PayPal and both said to stop payment with my bank. I did that and the next day PayPal recharged my account.
End result I did some background research of the guy and got 3 phone numbers, his criminal background, satellite photo of his parents home, etc.
I sent one final email and 3 phone messages to each number and indicated that the Omaha police might be interested that he was on probation for a fraud conviction in Rhode Island. He overnighted a Cashiers check with Saturday delivery. That cost him at least $30 for a $100 item.
