I read the thread about the "k-tongue modified technique," and I just had a few more questions about it.
How does k-tonguing different from the "ku" in double tonguing?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of k-tonguing?
Should k-tonguing eventually be used the same amount as "t" tonguing?
Thanks _________________ Jack |

Jack:
I'm relatively new to this technique, but am convinced of its benfits. I suggest you check out Matt Graves web-site for a more detailed treatment: http://mattgraves.netfirms.com/k_tongue_modified.htm
To answer your questions:
"How does k-tonguing different from the "ku" in double tonguing? "
Answer: The KU movement is done further back on the tongue, and is used as the second half of double tonguing. The K-modified movement is done with the front of the tongue, and is used as a single tonguing technique, or the first half of double/triple tonguing, ie. it replaces the traditional "TU" movement done with the tip of the tongue against the upper teeth.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of k-tonguing?
"See links to Matt Graves site found in the K-Tonguing
"Should k-tonguing eventually be used the same amount as "t" tonguing?"
Answer: Many believe it replaces "T" tonguing. Others believe it can be used interchangably. _________________ MF Fan

Also, check-out Jeff Purtle's site at http://www.purtle.com/jeff_articles.html
He was another Claude Gordon student, and has posted a very thorough collection of insights to Claude's teachings, including a good section on K-Tonguing Modifed. According to Claude it was "not optional."
My 10 year old son started on trumpet earlier this year, and I taught him this technique from day one. He has never tongued with the tip behind the front teeth, and he sounds great! _________________ MF Fan
