What do you need help with? I find the site to be fairly self explanatory for the most part. If you have a question about your fundimentals, go to that section; jazz, orchestra, Pedagogy(teaching methods), Cornet/Flugelhorn; go to those sections, and so on.
The second set deals with horns, got a question about trumpets in general, or a specific model, the horn forum is where to go. Same if you have questions about mouthpieces, or Mutes, Recording Equipment, or misc. other equipment go to the Other Toys.
The third section deals with users of different methods taught by either the teacher, or book that is named also there is a section there for players who have taken several years off the horn and have questions about coming back into the world of trumpet
Finally, you have a comments and suggestions, Lounge for misc. talk, and this forum, Rev. for debatable topics, so long as they follow the rules set forth be the TH (trumpet herald) moderators. _________________ Nick P.

I suspect he's just trying ro get to 5 posts to post in the marketplace. I would argue that anyone who finds this site complicated isn't bright enough to be allowed to post in the marketplace
I bet he has already advertised in the marketplace. The mods should bar these idiotic 'get to 5' posts.
EDIT: sure enough, that's exactly the case. 5 nonsense posts, and an advert for a horn. _________________ Schilke B1

well, I don't venture out of the forums on this site much. I don't have money for toys, nor do I desire to sell mine. It's a shame how people do that crap just to scam. _________________ Nick P.

Great job TH hope this keeps the site honest now!!!!

It looks like this guy is givin' the ol' finger to the TH site, its members, its hardworking moderators, and to Todd Davidson himself.
This pisses me off. Too many folks have worked so very hard to make this a special place for people to enjoy and benefit from.
IMHO, I hope the mods put a boot up his butt. Frankly, I wish they'd close the flea market anyway. It has gotten too shady.

Tom, I understand your point. Let me make a counterpoint.
As I understand the system, the five post rule does two things:
1) It makes it harder to spam the marketplace automatically, which makes the Marketplace a bit harder to scam.
2) It gives potential buyers some way to evaluate sellers.
If a seller makes five posts, none of which has much value, can be understood to be saying "I am only posting so that I can sell you stuff. I have no interest in participating in public discussions about trumpets and I have no interest in participating in public discussions with trumpet players." Users are then free to conclude what they will about the seller in question and make their purchasing decisions.
I would much prefer that these "five post wonders" become active participants in our community, and my personal choice at this point is to prefer doing business with sellers who are active participants in our discussions. _________________ Steve Thiel |

Hi,
Like Tom, I don't believe the "flea market" Marketplace is adding any credibility to TH. Ssecondly, it is clear that people are taking the "five posts" rule only to sell in the Marketplace. They don't appear to have plans to participate in TH otherwise.
TH set up the "five post rule" so it assumes it is working and its members will see through the posts as to who is credible and who is not? It is still a "crap shoot" as you can't trust your fellow musicians or it fosters that mentality.
I lean toward Tom's viewpoint.
Best wishes,
Lloyd |

It would be nice to be able to reply to classified ads and give feedback on the seleers.
And please, got the love of Mary, please give the professional sellers their own forum and enfore it.... pretty please????? It really sucks that the ads of the average seller get buried by the slew of ads from these pro sellers flood the marketplace on a regular basis. _________________ Schilke B1

I think the onus is on the buyer, not the moderators. Don't they do enough? Personally, I've found something in the marketplace I wanted, more than once. Then I checked the seller, and decided not to risk the purchase. I've also bought things from those who obviously contribute a lot more than any scammer would, and have never been burned.
FWIW, I think our marketplace works, as is, and appreciate it's existence. |
