I just moved onto S.A. Lesson #4 and am running into the time constraint I referenced in an earlier post. I only have time to do exercises 1&2 in the morning three days a week. Exercise #3 and the Clarke assignments fit in either in the evening of the same day, or sometime on my "off day," i.e. the days I'm not doing exercises 1-2. This seems reasonable given the time issue, but am I undermining the effect by splitting the lesson between two days? I assume it's better than not doing at all, but was hoping one of the qualified Gordon-guys would weigh-in to either validate the approach or suggest an alternative. Even though I haven't been able to do the lessons daily, my progress has been encouraging.

Thanks in advance.

MF,

I am not the best Claude Gordon person around here. But I would say this. It is definitely about quality time with the horn. If you can only spend one hour (or however long, it doesn't matter) with the horn, ok. It's not about time, it's about quality. If that time you spend with the horn is quality time, I can't see how that would hurt you. Having enough time to to the whole lesson every day would probably be more beneficial (as long as it was quality time of course). But if you must split the lessons into two days, I cna see how that would work. Each one is designed to bring you to a certain concept or developemental point in your playing. If you split that up over two days... who's to say that It is going to hurt. The key is QUALITY.

I'm done now,
Nick

No your not undermining the effect. What you are doing is called "alternate days". I usually don't put students on alternate days until they've been through most of the material at least once. In your case, I would say you're fine as long as you stay on each lesson for 7 days or more. So in your case two weeks total time on each lesson.
Let me know when you get to lesson 7 and I can give you some time saving tips.
