Also met Jackie Gleason, who showed me his trumpet collection and played a little (he's good) and Art Carney at the glitzy Carlsbad Chili Cook Off, Erick Estrada and Benny Medina at a CHIPs convention, Will Smith, Barbi Benton (still hot) and Henry the mule from Fargo. and also Babe the blue ox's trainer, Gramps McConnell. As you know, Babe was the very famous mythological blue ox who ran amuck in the hills of Japan during prohibition and ate all the cumquats and Lindon berries. He was later spray painted gold and given an honorary doctorate at Stanford. Not sure what the doctorate was in, but he was very proud and the whole family showed up, including his best friend Arnold who was famous in his own right being the first aardvark to ever run the 100 meter in less than 15 minutes. I never met him though, or Babe. |

If you didn't smell anything afterwards, it was probably just a grunt. You got lucky. |

I will be very honest, I can't remember just how many trumpeters I have met, nor even which THers I have met - every time I try and list them I always miss someone out.
From the TH world:
swthiel
AYates
PH
Eclipse Trumpets
trumpetjens
6pk
Nonsense Eliminator
bg
lh
trpt.hick
silverstar
Tootsall
Derek Reaban
cwerickson
Gary Wilder
Mzony
tptguy
Ron Burgundy!
ChrisP
TREverson
Solar Bell
Trent Austin
Froggynut
Bruce Lee
Jason Harrelson
MannyLaureano
Ohanapecosh
These are in no particular order and I am CERTAIN there are many that I have missed off - please feel free to remind me if we have met.
As for trumpeters met - FAR too many to name comfortably - easiest way of working it out would probably be to look through the infamous wig pics.
I knew it would happen - I post this and within minutes I get a PM "you forgot me" - will try and keep this updated as my memory is refreshed
(never meet people when tired or when beer is available)
Edited to add some that I forgot - oops

trumpetmike ... couldn't you just go through your pink hair photos? That might get you a pretty comprehensive list.
And, did you get a picture of NE with pink hair?
Inquiring minds want to know ... _________________ Steve Thiel |

Oh, that's good!
I was first trumpet in the high school band and my wife-to-be was the sexiest majorette I'd ever seen. She's not a musician but she's a theatre lighting designer and did the lighting for "Albert Herring" in a Boston University SFA production at the Huntington and for a bunch of different independent choreographers around Boston and NYC including at the Tsai Center, the Majestic and Boston Conservatory in Boston, the Joyce in NYC and dance festivals in Spain, Venezuela and Equador.

On my myspace page I have two pictures from my two encounters with Freddie Hubbard as well as pictures with the great Ted Curson whom I presonally know and have had the privilege of performing with on gigs and a jam session. Other well known trumpeters I've met include: Vinnie Cutro (a personal mentor), Jeremy Pelt, Sean Jones, Waldron Ricks, Lew Soloff, Christian Scott, Phil Vizutti, David Weiss, and the distinguished Wilmer Wise. _________________ "It's like an act of murder; you play with intent to commit something"- Duke Ellington

Don Ellis, Louis Davidson, Marvin Stamm, Buddy Childers, Rick Baptist, Randy Brecker, Doc Severinsen, Bobby Shew, Tony Plog, Edward Tarr, Bill Berry, Bud Herseth, Claude Gordon, Dominic Spera, Don Jacoby, Ed Cord, and went to UNT with Mike Williams (now with Basie band), Craig Johnson (Maynard, BS&T, Broadway shows), Dan Miller (Maynard, Harry Connick), Ken Waters (Waters Brothers), Rob Smith, Brad Turner, and TH's own Todd Davidson. Never got to meet Maynard but went to four concerts and had a friend in the band (Steve Wiest) who introduced me to Alan Wise (also Tim Ries and Dennis DiBlasio, but they're sax players). Tried to get introduced to Maurice Andre by a trumpet-playing friend who spoke French, but he was too snobby to speak to us.
Not that any one of these guys (other than the ones I knew at UNT) would remember me, especially since some of them are dead, but I at least got to meet them (and I have autographs from Doc and Marv Stamm). _________________ Bryan Fields

I had a very nice telephone conversation with Charlie Davis several years ago. Also picked up some tips on playing. He's a real gentleman and giving of his time.
Talked on the telephone with Larry Gianni several times about mouthpieces and playing in general. He's also a great guy!!
Talked on the telephone with Bob Findley about Van Laar trumpets several months ago. Wish I could afford a Van Laar without having to sell my prized Calicchio

Cloris Leachman before she got married, Harvey Korman, Mickey Mouse, Dizzy's assistant on the United Nations Orchestra tour, Chevy Chase, Marie Osmond, Wayne Bergeron, Claudio Roditti, and Bobby Shew.
If famous animals count, Michael Jackson's giraffe Coco , the beaver from the first Madagascar film, and Joan Rivers. |

...so I'm at IAJE in NYC several years ago at the Monette booth trying some lead pieces, and not sounding good. AT ALL. I'm going up a Cmaj scale up to around F or so, when my chops decide to make a sound like a weasel on fire. I decide that I might be done for a while and turn to put the mouthpiece back, and 10 feet away is Mr. Faddis. I left the immediate area.
, all at the same time.

Quincy Jones, Pamela Anderson, Shorty Rogers and Snooky Young. Oh, and Woody Allen at the circus one summer and Woody Herman one other summer, but not at the circus. |
