I'm looking for some killer brass DVD's. Anybody have any suggestions?
I already have Blast and The CSO doing Mahler's 5th.
Any style as long as it has "balls to the wall" brass.
THANKS! |

Check out some of the recordings of Boston Brass, Atlantic Brass, and Canadian Brass.
You may not normally enjoy the medium but these are all brass, and balls to the wall playing. _________________ Harry Marks

There is a wonderful DVD with Pierre Boulez conducting the London Symphony in Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments and Rite of Spring. Maurice Murphy and company sound incredible!!

Hey, man!! Chris Botti and Friends--Night Sessions Live is a great listen/see. I know, it's Smooth Jizz as they say, but there are some great grooves and Botti can jam! Also, although this is not on DVD that I know of, Chicago Live at the Greek theater ROCKS!!! It's on video cassette. Check 'em out! |

I just ordered that from Tower.com yesterday - can't wait to get it!
Also check out "German Brass Goes Bach." Perhaps my "Desert Island DVD."

I hate to agree with you, but Alabama is right out of the pages of Dante's Inferno. Truly, "all hope is abandoned by those who enter."

Dirty Dozen Brass Band's DVD "Down & Dirty." Great playing, music, and coverage! It is available online from Barnes & Noble. _________________ Janell Carter

Check out some of the Drum Corp websites. I'll bet there are some killer DVDs or at least VHS available!! _________________ Jay S.

Brian Setzer's Live In Tokoyo DVD is worth checking out. His trumpet section just kills. Not to mention the fact that Mr. Setzer himself is a badass. And yeah the DCI stuff is about as in your face as you're gonna get. '94 was a good year.

Not to stray off the subject, but the '94 DVD was the worst of the lot. Or maybe I feel that way because Santa Clara was so "down" that year. But, Phantom's guard looked...ah, nice.
