Hello,
First post here. I've been scouring as much as I could here over the past few months and found this site to be incredibly helpful and informative. I'm an ex (not sure that's the right term) trumpet player from high school days until I graduated in 70, just a few years back. I just recently purchased a Bach 37* for my daughter who is now in high school and very enthusiastic about her trumpet playing. She is interested in jazz, concert, marching band and recently working on starting up some brass quartet/quintet and trumpet trio groups with her BD's blessings.
Sorry for the long lead in but my question is:
Does anyone know of a good teacher in the Asheville, NC area? The BD has identified 1 person but this is a large area and there could be just the right person closer than we think. |

Send a PM to BeboppinFool. He can help you locate the right teacher.

I agree. Contact BeboppinFool. He is a fine trumpeter who lives and works in the Asheville area.

If you are unable to find anyone in the Asheville area, there are some outstanding teachers/instructors in Knoxville, TN. Send a pm to me if you wish to get contact info. I am not the instructor, but can give an excellent person to work with. _________________ Best Regards, Play Well!! |

A little drive down the road is former Atlanta Symphony trumpeter Larry Black. He and his wife own Leather Specialties (valve guards, etc) and he teaches at Brevard and over at Western Carolina University. He would be excellent for basics and routines to build a great foundation. He is not a jazz player but Beboppinfool would be great for that. Larry's most notiable student was Chris Martin - Principal of the Chicago Symphony.
His contact information is:
1981 Everett Road
Pisgah Forest, NC 28768
USA
Phone: 828-884-5907
He will be at WCU for the Trumpet Festival this weekend - a must see. Beboppinfool and Jeff Purtle will most likely be there as well
Good Luck!

Thanks so much to all who provided leads here, both on and offline. I am now planning to meet up with one of the more local professionals from TH over the weekend at a jazz event here in Asheville.
I appreciate the quick responses and encouragements... |
