Hi all,

I would like to buy one of those trumpet: Carol 506R (now 5060H-GSS) or 628R (now 6280H-GSS)?

Please only answer about those two model, I'm not interested in other trumpet in this moment

I really enjoy playing Cool Jazz, I like ballade and old 50s jazz songs. I really enjoy listening Chet Baker. I like smooth jazz and mellow sound with some bright edge

I know really well that there is no trumpet that make your sound, but I also believe that same trumpet may help in someway to achieve a particular sound.

who try both? what is the differences? Have the 6280H better sound of 5060H?

Any advise or comment are welcome

thanks all

I have the 506R and will get the 628R end of next week.
I'll post a review when I have compared them,
but I believe I've read that the 628R is a bit darker than 506R.
Time will tell if the rumors are right.

May be I will sell one of them to you

I have a Carol 506R for sale in the marketplace and also listed on Ebay. The gold brass bell gives it a very rich tone. I have played/owned a few Yamahas over the years and think the Carol plays and sounds just as good if not better. It mostly depends on what type of sound you are looking for. The Yamahas typically are a bit brighter in sound to me than the 506R. I'm only selling because I'm still trying to find the perfect horn. I just bought a horn that I want to devote my time to for a while. And I already have 3 other Bb trumpets. The Carol is the best player of the bunch and needs to be in someones hands that will use it. Check my ad in the marketplace or Ebay. I'm asking $700 plus shipping.

More news.

CarolBrass 506R vs 628R, both wit gold brass bells.
506 with sterling silver and 628 with twin tube nickel leadpipe.
By nature, the 506 is softer sounding than the 628.

506, easy to blow, quick response which means that the horn doesn't
need to be pushed hard to spund good. It does break up when it is
pushed hard though. For softer playing, this horn is a good choice.

628, has more "edge" in the sound and have also more "voices".
This horn is also easy to blow, but with a bit more resistance, which means
that the response is slightly slower. This again means that I needed to
play it a bit more "actively". (Not much!)
628 is also a good choice for softer playing, and if you like an "edge" in the
sound, this is the best choice for you.

leadtrmptlyr has also given the characteristics about the 506 in his reply,
and I can second that the Yamaha has a brighter sound than the CB's.

Both CB's have an even scale, and the intonation is very good.
The same I can say about build quality and finish.

I used my own rebuilt and threaded Yamaha Shew Jazz mouthpiece with a
own designed and produced stainless steel sound sleeve when comparing.

I would believe that Chet Baker would have chosen the 628 if he
had to chose between these two horns.

thank you all

I really apreciated your reply.

I love Chet Baker and I love his sound, so easy choice at this point. The true is that I ordered the new one 6280H-GSS but I still have a lot of doubts and I don't know if change it with 5060H-GSS that is more popular

I'm in Spain and there is no possibilty to try trumpet of CB.
I'm now looking for a Flugelhorn and I will buy probably buy a CB CFL-6200-GSS-SL ...
I'm waiting news about the price ...

bye

I haven't played a Bach 37 for many years,
but as far as my memory tells me, and by playing
duets with a friend (with a B 37), I would say that
the 506 is closest soundwise.

BUT, I also have to say that my duet friend is a
player with an overall softer sound than an average player...
