I'm not sure if it is a good or bad idea, but I could actually see this being a legitimate learning tool.
An alternative way to get scales, patterns, arpeggios under your fingers.... Heck! "transcribed" Dizzy solos!
Not good for learning the theory, but as I said, possibly a legitimate tool to help people with certain brain wiring to get the tools under their fingers.
Silly, yet profound! _________________ "Stomvi" PhrankenPhlugel w/ Blessing copper bell

Having played guitar hero with one of my girl friends as in a female friend not some one I am dating I would frown on it! It is not at all like playing a real guitar and it instills a lot of bad habits because it favors speed and accuracy of pushing the buttons over all else.
No if their was something to blow thorough that measured your air and something sampling the MP buzz pattern to assure you where on pitch center and where not just mashing down the pistons like a mad man it could be a good tool. It could be made into a learning tool but much of the fun would be taken out of it if skill was needed. The reason guitar hero is so popular is that their is no skill needed just dexterity and fast hand eye coordination. _________________ The only easy day was yesterday! |

It doesn't translate well to music, but hand/eye coordination is a pretty major part of playing most instruments. Lots of players could benefit from some finger exercises. _________________ Kanstul 1600

You mean, like, what one would need to get scales, patterns, or even tricky solos under their fingers?
I sometimes tap out scales on my fingers on the steering wheel when trapped on a long drive. Having a computer angrily buzz at me when I get it wrong would help avoid hammering in an erroneous pattern. I could see this actually being a legitimate tool for instances, like when it's night (the only time I have to practice), but I need to avoid waking up my toddler or neighbors in our dinky apartment. My ears are the feedback when I play and get it wrong, but when I must be silent, I could see something like this help hammer the patterns and supply the feedback when I cannot use sound for that purpose.
I'm serious, man! _________________ "Stomvi" PhrankenPhlugel w/ Blessing copper bell

I'd be up for that - I also tap out scales on the steering wheel or when I'm going for a run. My teacher uses an old valve block for finger calisthenics etc. Something that 'angrily buzzed' when I got the note wrong would be extremely useful! Right now, living in a flat, my practice on the horn itself is limited because of consideration for neighbours both before and after work, so some feedback like that would be extremely useful. _________________ Schilke B1

You kill me. Is this just in case we might somehow infer that (at least some) Star Trek fans would not generally be able to obtain girlfriends?
I'm home sick under the influence of medication, therefore possibly more twisted than usual, and couldn't resist.

Busted.
They really don't want me coughing/sneezing on them at work anyway--and told me to go home. So I took a nap before the concert...I was trying hard not to be disruptive to those around me, but wasn't going to miss it unless I couldn't walk...
Yes, Doc was great medicine last night--as was Eat'n'Park's Chilli afterwards.
