I picked up my 1956 Olds Recording from The Kanstul Factory a couple of weeks ago and wanted to share the results with the Trumpet Herald people. I would of put it on sooner, but had to figure out how to put pictures up. It was in very good shape and I just wanted it cleaned and relacquered.
I figured since it was made under Zig Kanstul and maybe even by him, why not have it done under him. He looked it over and said it doesn't look as if any work has ever been done to it.
The sound is as good as it was and the valve action which was great to begin with feels even better. I can't put Lilly it down.

Looks nice. Don't know what this "we" stuff Mendez is talking about.
Allow me to be aside. You will find individuals who think that the finish matters. For collectibility, perhaps. For playing and ENJOYING the horn? Not so much. If you're going to keep it and love it, by all means, get it relacquered.

Hey, I learned on this one's little brother. A recording cornet from '56 (or maybe '57?) sure looks EXACTLY like this, color, engraving and all. And what a SWEET horn!! |
